About

👋 Hi there, I'm Omar.

This is my story of how I went from overweight and unhappy to the fittest I'd ever been and finding a community I loved.

It inspired me to create Clubhouse to help others go on adventures, discover hobbies, and make friends along the way.

Overweight Jan 2017,   Ironman Cozumel Nov 2018

In 2017, I was really overweight as you can tell. So I gave the "slow carb diet" a try, which meant consuming an obscene amount of beans… and it worked. In 4 months I lost 40 lbs. 😲

After losing weight it was time to get fit. I wanted a challenge, something I thought I could never do — The Great Coast Ride, a 360 mile bike ride along the California coast. It was one of the toughest things I've ever done. I will never forget being the last one on the road and biking for hours in the pitch dark. I wouldn't recommend it. But I didn't give up and I got to Santa Barbara in one piece!

1) California coast   2) Ice bath to recover   3) Reached Santa Barbara

Still, something was missing. I was in the best shape of my life but I felt alone.

The turning point came when I joined the San Francisco Triathlon Club. They offered a 12 week challenge to prepare beginners for their first triathlon. 21 signed up for the challenge.

We trained hard, as much as 4 or 5 times a week. We swam in the freezing Bay waters together, biked to Marin, and learned to appreciate the miracle of chamois butter (chafing is no joke 😅).

I never expected it but over the months we became close friends. Some of us became more than friends 😉 I feel incredibly fortunate I found such an amazing group, and realized I want to help others find that too.

That is why I created Clubhouse — a place to challenge yourself and meet others as bold as you!

And in case you were wondering, we all finished the triathlon race. Look at all these happy faces 🍾

We finished the NAPA HITS Triathlon!
